Mark Burnett new 'People's Choice Awards' producer

"The People's Choice Awards" has announced that it's chosen Mark Burnett to produce next year's broadcast.
Burnett, whose TV hits include "Survivor," "The Apprentice" and Martha Stewart's weekday show, says he will re-invigorate the awards program, now in its 36th year.

The goal is entertaining the audience, not self-congratulation by the winners.

"In the past, they've tried to jam in too many awards," said Burnett, "which ended up with the show just being a series of reading nominees and acceptance speeches.

"We want it to be fast-paced, with lots of laughter, fun performances, and letting viewers see the stars they voted for," he said.

But amid the changes he has in mind, Burnett plans to bring back Queen Latifah as host for her fourth consecutive year.
The program, airing live next January, honors fan favorites in movies, music and TV as voted on by members of the public.
But it also honors the audience, he adds.

"The show is all about thanking the people who watch television, pay for music and buy theater tickets," said Burnett. "That's the whole point of it."

The competitive entrepreneurial show ‘The Apprentice’ returns once again with a new series that will have Bill Cullen, Jackie Lavin and Brian Purcell set tasks for a group of 14 aspiring businessmen and women with the ‘firing’ of a candidate every week.

Last year’s winner was Brenda Shanahan who won a 12 month contract with Cullen's company, Renault Ireland.
‘The Apprentice’ followed by ‘The Apprentice: You’re Fired’ will start on Monday, September 21st at 9.00pm and 10.20pm respectively on TV3.

Gerald and Lisa win starring roles in Apprentice spin-off

Celebrity lawyer Gerald Kean and his partner Lisa Murphy have landed parts on the new series of the Apprentice.

The solicitor and his partner have landed a joint role as contributors to TV3's You're Fired, which will follow the Apprentice show.

The spin-off series, which will accompany Bill Cullen's second season of The Apprentice, is being filmed this week.

Lisa and Gerald are set to take to the studio on Thursday and will begin filming the first segments for the show.

"We'll be doing You're Fired on Thursday of this week so we're looking forward to that," Lisa explained.

"I'm not sure yet what exactly our role is, we'll find all that out when we go in."
Meanwhile Lisa managed to raise a few eyebrows this weekend when she stepped out in a 'barely there', midriff baring Versace black dress.

She chose the revealing design, which showed off her summer tan, for the annual People of the Year Awards held at Citywest hotel on Saturday night.

APPRENTICE STARS SERVE 1,000 MEALS TO HOMELESS

Stars from TV series The Apprentice will be helping to serve 1,000 meals to homeless people on Friday as part of a charity Ramadan campaign.

Charity If is hosting an Iftar - an evening meal in which Muslims break their fast during Ramadan - at East London's Altab Ali Park, for local homeless people.

Former contestants from BBC Two's The Apprentice, Tre Azzam, Shazia Wahab, Majid Nagra and Syed Ahmed, will be donning their aprons and chef hats to help serve large quantities of biryani, samosas, pakoras, Indian sweets and an exotic fruit salad.

People from all communities are invited to attend The Big Iftar event, which is part of a global campaign called Iftar 10 000: Around the World in 10 Iftars.

The campaign will be launched with The Big Iftar and similar events will then take place around the world in areas affected by conflicts or natural disasters. Islamic Relief, Muslim Aid, Muslim Hands, Islamic Help, Muslim Charity, Human Appeal and Interpal are working with If on the campaign.

At Friday's event there will be live performances from artists such as Muslim hip hop group, Mecca2Medina and stand-up comedian, Prince Abdi.
Local MP George Galloway and Baroness Pola Uddin will be speaking at the event, alongside the Mayor of Tower Hamlets Councillor Ahmed Omer and Tower Hamlets council leader Lutfur Rahman.

The Respect MP for Bethnal Green and Bow said: "Around the World in 10 Iftars is a wonderful opportunity to recognise the plight of homeless people in our own city.

"Over the subsequent nine days, 1000 Iftars will be provided around the world countries affected by conflicts or natural disasters, including Sudan, Bosnia, Palestine, Afghanistan, Kashmir and Bangladesh."

Ruhul Tarafder, communications officer for If, said: "There is no better way to bring people together than food.
"Through this event, we hope to help build understanding between different communities and the homeless.
"The initiative is the first step in a long term vision of helping homeless and displaced communities around the world."

Staff from homelessness charity Thames Reach and local shelter, Hopetown, which is part of the Salvation Army, will also be at the event to highlight the problems facing homeless people in the capital.

The meal will be served at sunset with any remaining food distributed to various homeless shelters around London.

If is a charity that seeks to work with and compliment the efforts of other charities working to promote the issues of children, communities and the environment both in the UK and around the world. It looks for fun, interesting and innovative ways to support worthwhile causes.
